Harold Fisher was born on July 10, 1930, in the middle of the Great Depression, to his proud parents, Jean and Abraham Fisher. He attended the NYU College of dentistry from 1950 to 1954, earning his degree in dentistry. He graduated at the top of his class as a member of the
Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society.
Following graduation, he enrolled in the United States Air Force in 1954, seeing active duty in July 1954. He achieved the rank of first lieutenant --captain and was honorably discharged in July 1956. He then returned to NYU College of dentistry from 1956 to 1960 to receive his degree in orthodontics. During this time, on December 13, 1958, he married the love of his life, Ruth Barbara Ostrager. They had four children who were his pride and joy, Ken, Joel, Miles, and Pearl. He described them as the jewels in his jewel box.
Harold practiced general dentistry and orthodontics from his office on Maurice Avenue in Woodside New York, for 35 successful years. During this time, he took care of hundreds of families. He had many patients who he cared for starting as young children, who grew to teens, and who continued seeing him throughout adulthood. Some who moved away even flew back to New York to see him. Harold reveled in being a dentist because he loved helping people and he passed this value onto his children. He was a perfectionist who turned dentistry into an art, and he took great pride in the superior quality of his work.
Harold and Ruth also became proud grandparents to 6 grandchildren--Joshua, Danielle, Arielle, Gabrielle, Jonathan and David, whom they loved very much. They brought him much joy in his later years. He loved to tell anyone who would listen that he was so lucky to have his beautiful wife and family.
