Born on May 7th, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, Ira was the son of Samuel and Freda Schulman. He grew up in the Bronx and attended Stuyvesant High School where he formed lifelong friendships with his High School C hampionship-winning Football Teammates. He went on to Hunter College where he met his wife of 64 years, Elayne Engelman Schulman. They moved to NJ to raise their family where Ira completed his Master's Degree in Psychology at Rutgers University. After moving to Metuchen where they lived happily for many years, they pursued their love of world travel — especially to their favorite yearly destination, Princeville, Kauai. They eventually settled in Highland Beach, Florida as their home base.
Ira was a dedicated NYC Board of Education teacher for 35 years, as well as working as a talented and in-demand professional photographer. Beyond his work, Ira was known for his love of tennis, travel, the New York Giants and food. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather who filled our lives with wisdom, laughter and support.
He is survived by his loving wife Elayne; his children, Lawrence (Jessica Reap) Schulman of Cos Cob, CT, Sueanne Schulman of Manhattan, NY and Stacie (Michael) McManus of Lake Barrington, IL and Highland Beach, FL, as well as his beloved grandsons Matthew, Jake and Nathaniel. He was predeceased by his parents and his much-loved in-laws Mollie and Nathan Engelman.
