How do you sum up a lifetime into a tidy obituary? I don’t know, but anyone who knew Jay knew his boundless appetite for life, and how he channeled it into his art, whether it be poetry, painting, drawing, sculpture, or photography, or just everyday conversation, which was never boring or humdrum. His humanity came through in everything he created. Jay wasn’t afraid to embrace all facets of his existence and experience and give emotion, thought, or feeling its own life and expression. He understood the human condition and cared deeply for the fate of the planet and its inhabitants, whether they be human, animal, or natural.
Jay was warm, witty, loving, and caring. He was married for 70 years to his high school sweetheart, Phyllis, and is survived by his 2 sons, Gene and Neil, his daughter in law AnnMarie, and his grandson Joel, all whom he loved and cherished. He will be deeply missed but is forever in our hearts.
