Rest in peace, Joel Gabel. My friend, colleague, mentor and companion. My life was made better because you were in it. The most amazing personality, you always made everyone smile, everyone laugh. Kind, giving, thoughtful, always helpful, always giving good advice. I will miss you. And I love you. I'm sorry I didn't get to see you more over the last few years. But I am so glad and so honored to have known you. Thank you for all the wonderful times.

What a special person Joel was.  When he visited NC we would have dinner with him and he would tell us the most interesting stories.  We will certainly miss his humor.  We will keep the family in our thoughts and prayers.

 my prayers are with the gabel family... it has been eons since Mohegan, however I have fond memories of joel with crutches...

I have known Joel for more than 30 years and he has been a loving, generous, funny and kind friend.  I cannot imagine I will not be sharing a weekend, a dinner, or a memorable event with him ever again.  My heart aches.

I knew Joel for almost 50 years. To me he was and will always be one of Shelly's older brothers. And they were two of the coolest dudes in Forest Hills. Joel always had a story to tell... and each story had a message. But best of all...his stories would reveal the funny, ironic, philosophical or absurd side of people, places and events. It was like listening to a sage. I think he would have made a great rabbi. But it was his rye, satirical sense of humor that I will miss the most...even though I provided him with a lot of material.
