February 23, 1931 - December 29th, 2021. Judith Feinman passed away in her sleep in Newtown, Conn. early Wednesday morning. A deeply loved and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Judy was born in 1931 to George and Ida Wale (née Haselkorn) and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. After graduating early from Manual Training High School, she studied sociology at Brooklyn College, where she met her husband, Bernard Feinman.
Judy, a mother of five, was tragically predeceased by Bernard and three sons, Steven, David, and Paul. She is survived by her brother Howard Wale (Joanne), children Philip Feinman (Marcy), Fran Beilinson (Jerry), Robert Ostergaard (Paul’s husband), and Sylvia Krakauer (David’s wife), five grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews, and Mayen Eyo, who lovingly cared for Judy in her final years. Judy’s life revolved around her family and friends. She was remarkable for her generosity of spirit and her interest in the lives of everyone she met. Judy was an unwavering champion of underdogs, a fierce advocate for fairness, a staunch feminist, and an enthusiastic participant in Jewish life. She worked as a bookkeeper and then, for many years, as a case worker and supervisor for the department of social services in Nassau Country, where she cared deeply about the well-being of her clients. She loved watching the Yankees and playing endless rounds of Rummy 500. (In recent years, she was never known to lose a game!)
Judy was loved and admired by her colleagues, neighbors, caretakers, and most of all by her many friends and her family. A woman of strong Jewish faith, Judy cared deeply for her community and will be missed by all who knew her.
A private family service will be held. Shiva will be observed virtually Sunday, January 2nd at 7pm. Please email Rabbi Eric Polokoff ([email protected]) to receive the Zoom invitation.
