"Julia Choi of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, died with grace and intent on March 17, 2017, after an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of immense kindness, generosity, and care.
Born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to Puerto Rican immigrants, Julia devoted her early life to school, understanding the importance of education in escaping poverty. Upon graduating from Marymount College, Tarrytown, she ascended the corporate ranks in New York. During this time, she met Byung "B.J." Choi. Enamored with his intelligence, sensitivity, and their shared experience as the children of immigrants, Julia married B.J. in July of 1988. Shortly after the birth of her two children, Julia left work to become a full-time mother -- her life's work.
She is survived by her husband, B.J., her children, Gabriella and Andrew, her mother, Evarista López-Salas, and her brother, Pasquale Cubero. Her family will be receiving friends and relatives at Forest Park Chapel on March 21st, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, NY, on March 22nd. Following mass, burial services will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Garden Mausoleums in Farmingdale, New York. In lieu of flowers, in her honor can be made to the HHT Foundation (http://curehht.org/)."
