Lea Blau (Kugel) age 84 died peacefully at her home on May 17, 2020. She was born January 30, 1936 in Brad, Romania and immigrated to Israel in 1951 where she completed her education culminating in a PhD from the Weitzman Institute of Science. She came to the US for a postdoctoral fellowship at Rutgers University and she stayed after meeting and marrying her devoted husband Alfi Blau who predeceased her in 2016. She devoted her long professional life to being a well respected professor of Chemistry at Yeshiva University, Stern College for Women where she received the 2010 Dean Karen Bacon Award for an Outstanding Senior Faculty Member. She often said that her students kept her young. She is survived by her nephew and niece Miron and Gabriela Abramovici, and her cousin Ioana Ratesh. A private funeral will be held on May 19, 2020 at the Old Montefiore Cemetery, Springfield Gardens, NY . In lieu of flowers please send donations in memory of Lea Blau to Stern College of Yeshiva University an institution that meant a lot to Lea. May her memory be a blessing.

Dr. Blau was a wonderful teacher and mentor. She challenged us and guided us in the best of ways, and I look back on her class with fond memories. She will be missed by her students.

We worked closely together for many years. It was always a pleasant sharing of ideas and feelings. Lea was a wonderful colleague and friend. She is missed.
