The Berliner and Engelman families are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Lillian Berliner. Her last days were peaceful in the compassionate care of the staff at Calvary Hospital.
Lillian, known as Lili, was originally from Romania/Hungary and was a Holocaust Survivor, with her mother, of the Cluj ghetto, Auschwitz, Bremen work camp, death march and Bergen Belsen, where they were liberated in April of 1945. She married her beloved Walter in the first Jewish wedding in Frankfurt after WW2 and then came to the US in 1947.
Lillian had 2 sons, resumed her education at night school while working full time and received a master’s degree in Health Care Administration, working in the care of nursing home dementia patients. Her greatest joy was the celebration of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lillian will be remembered for her brilliance, loving nature and beautiful soul. Anyone that met Lili loved her and she loved them. May her memory always be a blessing.
A memorial service for Lillian will be held Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Sinai Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in Lillian's memory to 3GNY. 3GNY is an educational non-profit organization founded by grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. Donation link can be found below.
