Luisa was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on August 19, 1937, to Ulpiano Beleño and the former Emilia Amaris. In 1967, she immigrated to the United States with her then husband and four children. In 1971, she purchased a house in Jamaica, New York and raised her family. She became a U.S. citizen and lived in that house for the past 54 years. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend whose warmth and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Luisa proudly worked as a seamstress for 25 years. She pursued continuing education and became a Certified Nursing Assistant until her retirement. Her strong work ethic and dedication to her job were matched by her deep love for family and community.
She found joy in simple pleasures — love of music, dancing and singing, gardening and taking pictures, and having family gatherings surrounded by her loved ones with her amazing cooking. She was the true matriarch of the family with a strong spirit and will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the love she gave so generously.
Luisa is survived by her four children: Esther Perez (Edgar), Freddy Perez, Richard Perez (Gina), and Teddy Perez (Marisa); six grandchildren: Alexandra (Ivan), Eddie, Patrick (Douce), Justin (Stefanie), Richard Jr., and Rachel; three great grandchildren: Layah, Liam, and Malachi. She also leaves her sister, Elvira Beleño, and many nieces and nephews.
