Marcia Risa Widoff, aged 93 of Flushing, NY and most recently Dry Harbor Nursing Home in Middle Village, NY, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2019. Born in Mielnica Poland in 1926, she and her mother, Rachel Lea Kushner Giniger immigrated to the US in 1930 following her father Solomon Abraham Giniger who arrived earlier and found work as a tailor in the furrier trade. Marcia and her brother Seymour grew up in the Bronx near the Grand Concourse amidst the Jewish and eastern European diaspora that settled there in the early 1900s. She married Robert Widoff, also of the Bronx, in 1944. Robert established himself as a jewelry designer under the name Ivan Gregorovitch in Manhattan and won numerous jewelry design awards before his untimely passing in 1990. Marcia and Robert had two children, Harry and Lissa Widoff who survive her. She appreciated all forms of art and loved to paint. She expressed her drawing talents at an early age, pursuing this as a passionate hobby throughout her life and sharing this joy with her husband and friends. She was a devoted mother and great–aunt, with a quiet but sharp wit, a creative and curious mind, elegant spirit, and strong will. She overcame a major stroke in 2006 and regained much independence with support of her family and beloved caretakers. Although her physical abilities were much compromised from the stroke, she never lost her sense of humor or sense of style, and always encouraged others to reach for their potential and to be honest and forthright. Her kind words and family values will live on in our heart. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Queens Botanical Gardens.
A funeral service for Marcia was held Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapel, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the funeral service there was a committal service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Montefiore Cemetery, 121-83 Springfield Blvd, Springfield Gardens, NY 11413.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sbjmemorialchapel.com for the Widoff family.
