Marilyn “Lynn” Wilson, née Slovis, of Briarwood, Queens, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the age of… “none of your business.” She was quick to tell you that it was rude to ask a woman’s age!
Nevertheless, Lynn was born on November 22, 1931 in the Bronx, NY, where she grew up, the daughter of the late Sam and Dora Mintz Slovis. After high school, she entered the workforce as a bookkeeper, where she saved up money so she could fulfill her dream and travel on an extended trip to Europe on the SS United States. She talked about how wonderful and memorable that trip was throughout her entire life.
Lynn married Jack Wilson on June 24 1961. They were married for 28 years before Jack passed away suddenly on August 30, 1989. She never remarried and joked that she was waiting for Antonio Banderas.
Lynn continued to work as a bookkeeper for several businesses over the years, her last and longest being for the clothing company, Star City, in Brooklyn. When she retired, she spent her time doing the things that she loved: traveling, shopping, attending Broadway musicals and movies, swimming at her (or her friend’s) pool club and drinking good strong coffee. She also enjoyed meeting up with her friends at the Forest Hills Senior Center for card games, RummiKub and mahjongg.
Lynn will be remembered for her love of family and love of a good time. She never passed up an opportunity to dance, whether it was at a wedding or bar mitzvah, or at an event at Alba’s restaurant.
Lynn was predeceased by her beloved husband, parents, sister, Phyllis “Penny” Klein, and niece Heidi Casimiro, as well as aunts/uncles Evelyn & Stanley Rykowksi and Rose and Max Mintz. She leaves behind her loved ones who will cherish her memory including daughter Heather Giarrusso and her husband (and favorite “son”) Jim, grandchildren Justin Giarrusso and Alyssa Picarillo (Dom), nieces Fawn Hartline (Kerry) and Mindy LaCorte (Phillip), and cousins Fran and Tom Schuller and Fred Mintz and the extended Schuller/Mintz families.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Wellwood Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY 11704.
Lynn loved flowers but also supported several charitable organizations. Memorial donations in Lynn’s memory can be made to any of the following: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project or any Jewish charity of your choice.
