Martin Barnett, Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Benjamin and Jessie (Berman) Barnett, on August 5, 1934, Marty grew up on the streets of Flatbush, was a student at Erasmus Hall High School, and attended Baruch College in New York City, where, in addition to earning his degree in Accounting, he landed the lead role of Willy Loman in their production of "Death of a Salesman". Marty enlisted in the Army; stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. After his honorable discharge, Marty went on to become a Certified Public Accountant where worked in the public and industrial sectors. His dynamic personality soon led him in another direction, sales, and he joined Charles J. Krasne and Connecticut Mutual Life in 1968. That year, Marty was named insurance salesman “Man of the Year” for his exceptional performance, and from there, he continued to pursue exceptionalism in every aspect of his life.
All those who knew Marty were fully aware of his enchanting natural charm, quick wit, sharp sense of humor, vast intelligence, depth of knowledge, and his extraordinary attentiveness and ability to engage in conversation with everyone he met. And, no one could deny his captivating, standout smile.
Marty honestly looked forward to every day, and he lived by the mantra that "his whole life was ahead of him". He had many passions including dramatic theater, classical music, chess, talk radio, Central Park, sausage pizza, the Atlantic Ocean, dogs, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and of course, the New York Rangers, as a die-hard fan, and season ticket holder, at Madison Square Garden from 1979-2020.
While Marty enjoyed a variety of interests, his greatest passion and motivation was always, first and foremost, his family. Marty married the love of his life, Barbara L. (Vogel) Barnett on September 24, 1961, and together they raised four beautiful children in New York City and Atlantic Beach, NY.
Marty was also a patriot, with strong political conviction and a staunch alignment with conservative values. He proudly supported "America first" initiatives, and he relished in political discussion and debate with anyone who was interested, and even those who weren't. Marty enjoyed sharing information and provoking thought through daily emails, in which he would often provide his own, insightful commentary. Marty was deeply contemplative, unabashedly opinionated, and eloquently articulate.
Martin was predeceased by his beloved wife, both of his parents, and his older brother Arthur. He is survived by his four devoted children, Rebecca, Jonathan, Rachel, and David; his daughters-in-law Melissa and Jaclyn; his son-in-law Dan; and by his six adored grandchildren Jake, Leeza, Benjamin, Inbar, Elliana and Madelyn. To his friends and family, Marty will always remain our "Man of a Lifetime".
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Ararat Cemetery, 1165 NY-109, Lindenhurst, NY, 11757.
