Born Minnie Smilowitz Dec. 1, 1916 in NYC to immigrant parents Louis, a baker, and Bessie, a seamstress. Graduated from James Monroe HS in 1932 and Hunter College in 1936, the first in the family to attend college. Met husband David at a Jewish singles weekend in the Catskills and married in 1951. Worked for the VA during the war, then taught in NYC and at Walnut Street Elementary School in Uniondale Long Island, earning a Master of Arts in teaching from NYU in 1951. Retired 1981 half the year in Florida and half on Long Island, enjoying folk dancing, travel and continued learning. Moved to Assisted Living in East Meadow in 2009. Remembered fondly by former students, fellow educators, friends and family. Predeceased by her loving husband David in 1992 and survived by daughter Gail and son-in-law Terry of Forest Hills NY; two adored grandchildren, Hannah and Ben; sister and best friend, Gloria; and beloved nephew and niece, Cory and Joanne.
