Here is Octavian as I remember him. Always the one with the camera before cell phones were popular but included in this group photo I cropped. He was a cheerful enthusiastic coworker who loved his science. I'll remember him fondly.

For those of us who were members of The Squibb Institute and then Bristol-Myers Squibb, Octavian Kocy was an important part of our professional family.  As an outstanding analytical chemist, his diligence and insight earned him the respect of his colleagues and challenged us to perform better as scientists.  His depth of caring about his work and the enthusiasm he expressed in intellectual argument sustained an important segment of the Institute’s culture and endeared him to us all.  Octavian’s career at Squibb and then Bristol-Myers Squibb touched many generations of scientists and has left a legacy that will long be remembered.

Octavian Kocy was a colleague at Squibb and then Bristol-Myers Squibb. He was an excellent analytical chemist who contributed significantly to many drug discovery programs, including the ones that led to the Squibb discoveries of Capoten and Azactam. His work was precise, inventive and incisive,  accelerating the work of his coworkers and providing information that could not be obtained in any other way.

His coworkers and millions of patients benefited immensely from his work.
