

She was born and raised in Bronx, New York, and resided in Flushing, New York from the time of her marriage to her late husband, our dear Father, Dr Harold Fisher, olov ha’shalom. Later in life, they spent winters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
She was the beloved daughter of Eva and Bernard Ostrager (Z”L)
She was the beloved wife of Harold Fisher from December 13, 1958 until the time of his death on January 20, 2018. He was the love of her life and she was his. She was his “Ruthie”.
She leaves behind a wonderful legacy of four children: Kenneth Fisher (Elizabeth Lender), Joel Fisher (Irene Fisher), Miles Fisher (Shully Fisher) and Dr Pearl Fisher Serota (Steve Nordund) and
six grandchildren: Joshua Serota, Danielle Serota, Arielle Fisher, Gabrielle Fisher, Jonathan Fisher and David Fisher
She was also the beloved baby sister, “Ruthie” to her 6 older siblings and their spouses: Sidney (Lottie) Ostrager (Z”L), Pearl Ostrager (Z”L), Murray (Anne) Ostrager(Z”L), Dr Bea Alpert ,(Dr Sheldon Alpert Z”L), Nettie Goldstein (Z”L), (Mel Goldstein), and Sy Ostrager (Z”L) (Chanah Ostrager Z”L)
She was the beloved Aunt Ruthie to numerous nieces and nephews who all adored her.
She attended John Monroe High School in Bronx New York, earned her bachelors degree at City College, and a second degree in teaching from Hofstra University. She was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Society for exceptional contribution to the field of education. Later in life, she earned a Masters degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University.
Before getting married she worked in the garment district as a buyer of fine fabric and lace for high-end department stores, and then became a teacher. After she married, she dedicated herself exclusively to being a wonderful wife and mother. She subsequently re-entered the field of education as a substitute teacher at various New York City schools and later worked as a guidance counselor at John Adams High School in Queens, New York. Her counseling impacted countless young people’s lives and their families.
She enjoyed tennis, bridge, traveling, dancing, volunteering at the sisterhood of her synagogue (Israel Center of Hillcrest Manner), making elaborate Shabbat and Holiday dinners and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
She was health conscious before her time, like our Father of blessed memory, and always prepared healthy meals for her family. She occasionally indulged in some chocolate ice cream which she loved.
Our Mom always lit up a room with her smile and was warm and welcoming to everyone she encountered. She was a hostess with the mostest. She always put everyone else first.
Her memory will always be a blessing to her family and all those who were lucky enough to know her.
A funeral service for Ruth will be held Monday, February 13, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Sinai Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM at Mount Zion Cemetery, 59-63 54th Avenue, Maspeth, NY 11378.
