Samuel C. Pokart passed away at his home on October 10, 2023 at the age of 77. Sam was born in New York City, the son of Billie L. and Joseph Pokart. Sam leaves behind his daughter, Rebekah Pokart-Cabonargi, son-in-law, Luigi Cabonargi, and his grandchildren, CJ and Billie Cabonargi. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen, sister-in-law Nurit Seri-Pokart, niece Sarah Pokart, Sarah’s partner Todd Robinon, and great-nephew Logan Pokart-Robinson. Sam was predeceased by his parents and his nephew, Tom Pokart.
Sam graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Florham Madison Campus, in 1969 with degrees in History and Political Science. After graduation Sam taught history and science and coached the varsity soccer team at the General Douglas A. MacArthur Military Academy in Mt. Freedom, NJ. After coaching and teaching Sam embarked upon a long and varied career in Commercial Real Estate. He first worked as a rental agent and property manager for one of the largest landlords in New York City. Eventually he opened his own successful brokerage company, Samgin Realty, Co. that specialized in the sale of buildings, garages, and loft and store leasing.
A natural storyteller, Sam loved talking to his family, especially his grandkids and daughter. He was full of knowledge and imagination. If Sam wasn’t making up stories, he was telling you the history of a world event and its relevance. His imagination and good humor helped him to get through his life long battle with Crohn’s disease.
A graveside burial service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY on Friday, October 13 at 11am. If you wish to make a donation in Sam’s name the family suggests The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
