Hopewell Junction – Sidney M. Goodrich, a resident of Hopewell Junction, NY passed away on January 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.
Sidney was born on March 11, 1939, in Bronx, NY, the son of William and Gladys (Scheinbart) Goodrich. He was affectionately known as ‘Sidnala’ by his mother.
Sidney lived a life full of adventure and love. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his condo in Florida and his farm and home in Mass. He was a master “fig grower” with over forty fig trees at his house and he was quite good at making fig jam, which he shared with friends and family. He loved the outdoors, birdwatching and was fascinated by all the wild animals that visited his property.
He was a collector of all things eclectic, he loved his family photos, and he was a great storyteller to any audience willing to entertain him. He was an incredibly generous man, often helping friends and strangers in any way he could. Sidney always had kind words, and sometimes “constructive criticism,” to offer friends and family alike. A trustworthy and empathetic man, he became a friend, confidant, counselor, and role model to those who were lucky enough to know him.
Sidney left his life as a Massachusetts homesteader and entered the fire suppression industry in the 1980s, joining his father, William and brother, Howard. As a partner, he helped grow Allstate Sprinkler Corporation into one of the most successful and well-known organizations in the tri-state area. Sidney poured his heart and soul into his co-workers, often becoming a supportive father figure, not simply a “boss.”
Sidney is survived by his wife Norma Goodrich and his beloved children: Mark Goodrich, Matthew Goodrich (Anna), Sammy Melendez (Allyns), and Manny Melendez. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brianna (Brandon), Nicollette (Leighton), Will, Theo, Yianni, Evi, Christina, Chelsea, Madison, Sammy Jr., Noah, Joshua, his great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Kayleigh, Knox, Micah, Josiah, Callahan, Elijah, Luella, his niece Ericka Vulaj (Gino) and their children: Sophia, Ava, and Zachary, and his sister-in-law: Pauline Goodrich.
Sidney is predeceased by his son Michael Goodrich, and his brother Howard Goodrich.
