Suzanne L O'Grady

Suzanne Liebowitz Ritter Cohan O’Grady passed away on February 5, 2021 at the age of 85. The daughter of Florence and Seymour Liebowitz, she was born in Queens, New York. Suzanne was a beloved sister to Fran Levow (deceased), and a devoted mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loyal fan of the New York Islanders, and she and her late husband James O’Grady were a familiar sight at Nassau Coliseum, where they wore their oversized jerseys: Sweet Sue [7-11] and Big Jim. Suzanne made the best chopped liver, was an avid watcher of her “stories”, loved to cook for family and friends, hated being called Susan, and was beloved for her generous and upbeat nature.

Suzanne attended Lawrence High School and lived in Hewlett and Woodmere in Nassau County, New York. A talented singer with a lifelong love of music, she was a member of the New York Philharmonic’s Collegiate Chorale. Like her mother before her, she was an active member of the B’nai Brith at Temple Israel in Lawrence. Suzanne had four sons—David, Stewart, Michael, and Marty—three daughters: Tammy, Deirdre, and Karla, and an honorary daughter, Beverly. The children of James O’Grady—James, Eileen, Josephine, and Maureen—also called her “Mom.” She is survived by many many grandchildren and she loved them all.

A funeral service for Suzanne will be held Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 7800 Myrtle Avenue, Glendale, NY 11385.
