He was born in Saint-Michel-de-L'Attalaye, Haiti, on May 15, 1939, to Turenne Guerrier and Elisabeth Joachin.
Tony attended the École Nationales de St. Michel in Haïti. On April 4, 1970, Tony married Rose Evanie Desravines,
and together they raised a beautiful family.
His professional career spanned many vocations, including his first love of carpentry. In Haiti, he had his own
atelier for producing custom furniture where he exhibited great skill, earning him the nickname “Boss To” - a
moniker reserved for those who excelled at their craft. Upon immigrating to the United States in 1983, Tony spent
more than 20 years working in a warehouse and over 15 years at Bellevue Hospital, where he was well-known for
his dedication to his work.
His dedication to his family and friends was most important to him. Many will recall his unexpected phone calls or
impromptu home visits just to check-in - none of which were random acts, but rather intentional expressions of
the love and care he held for them. In 2021, he received a certificate of appreciation from his nephews for being
an amazing uncle, a recognition of which he was extremely proud and which brought him much joy. His community
involvement was also meaningful, as he was an active member of the Holy Name Catholic Church. Tony’s hobbies
and interests were varied and deeply reflective of his vibrant character. He loved carpentry, soccer, cricket,
gardening, and spent many afternoons playing dominoes and card games—particularly Basig, 3-7, and Casino. He
reveled in the friendly competition as well as the playful arguments he would incite but above all the memories
they created.
A special memory of Tony that will remain close to the hearts of his family and friends was his time spent on
vacations to St. Martin, Mexico and Puerto Rico as well as returning to visit his beloved Haiti. He enjoyed walking
on the beach and watching the sun rise, moments that truly captured his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
On his first time stepping into a hot tub, Tony, ever the cheerful soul, remarked, “This feels good, man!” Tony will
be remembered as a good man, a great husband, an amazing father, and a wonderful grandfather. His life was full
of love, joy, and humor, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his
family and those who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm spirit, loving nature, and signature laughter will
be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain a light in the lives of his loved ones.
Tony was predeceased by his daughter, Mirtha as well as his brothers Joel Charles, Montholy, Durasse, and Jean-
Baptiste Guerrier. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose; his children: Jean Sugmin (and his wife, Francesca), Banel
(and his wife, Carrine), Wilder, and Farrah (and her husband, Aziz); as well as his grandchildren: Zaraya, Thalya,
Jaheim Banel, Chloe, Malcolm, Sophia, and Leilani. He was also cherished by his sister, Anne Renya Lindor as well
as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
