spirit, steadfast in love, and serious when it came to solving problems and protecting his family.
A devoted husband for 53 years, and a proud
caring father, he lived a life grounded in
responsibility and compassion. Born September 11, 1938, in Gondar, Ethiopia, Yigzaw spent his early years surrounded by tradition and a rich cultural heritage. He later
moved with his family to Addis Ababa, where he began his education at Kedamawi Haile Selassie I School. He went on to attend General Wingate Secondary School, where his academic curiosity opened doors to future studies.
Yigzaw was accepted to Jimma Agricultural Technical School and, later, matriculated to Alemaya College of Agriculture. His studies
took him to Israel, where he worked on a kibbutz and picked up some Hebrew.
Upon returning to Ethiopia, Yigzaw began his professional journey with the Ministry of Agriculture. Soon after, he joined Ethiopian Airlines, where he built a long and successful career.
Yigzaw moved to New York with his family in 1983. While he engaged in various jobs, and even rejoined Ethiopian Airlines in their New York Headquarters, his primary focus was taking care of his family.
In 2010, Yigzaw was diagnosed with kidney disease. While he faced many health challenges in the years that followed,
it was in early 2025 that his health began to significantly decline.
Yigzaw passed away surrounded by loved ones on June 17, 2025. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in knowing he is no longer in pain and now rests in eternal peace.
