John Allan Cheyne

Age 66, died peacefully in the care of his loving family, Dr. Scher and staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital on March 31, 2026 in Fort Erie, ON.

John is survived by his life partner of 45 years Gail Cheyne; his children Tammy (Ward) Barrett, Ashley Cheyne and Brian Cheyne; grandchildren Allison, Abigail, Hailee, Carter, Emily and Lily.

He is preceded in death by his sister Linda, and parents Velva and Jack Cheyne

John was born on December 28, 1959 in Pefferlaw, ON. He was an avid horseman for almost 45 years as an Owner, Trainer, Exercise Rider and an Equine Caretaker at Fort Erie Racetrack, Woodbine Racetrack and many others through travel in the United States. His heart was deeply rooted in the horse racing industry and his legacy will continue through his family ties and many friends who admired his passion for horses.

He enjoyed his family, adored his grandchildren and pets, watching his favourite western tv and car racing shows in addition to following races very closely.

His family and friends will always remember him as a very caring grumpy and witty person with a sharp sense of humour.
