Vernon Wray Benner

Loving husband to Chickie (nee Moses). Much loved father of sons Brian (Susan) and Chris (Tina) and daughters Laura and Kylie.

Wonderful Grandpa to Doug, Scott, Max and Madi, Pops to Weston and Papa to Danilynn. Great Grandpa to Carter and Axl.

Vern adored his Flagg, Spear and Moses families.  Never a dull moment at get-togethers, treasured memories forever.

Vern loved life and lived it to the fullest. His kindness, quick wit, sense of humour and storytelling to name a few kept him forever young. A warrior in his own right, with his strong will, determination and never give up attitude Vern was a 43 year Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor, a true inspiration to us all.

An avid sportsman, Vern excelled in high school track and football.  He went on to play professional baseball, signing with the Cleveland Indians in 1958. Vern enjoyed playing ball but had more fun playing hockey. He has been inducted into the Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame three times, two for baseball and one for hockey.

We as a family have so many people to thank. To George and Moira, your unwavering love, care and support has made this crazy roller coaster ride so much easier. You're simply the best. To the rest of our families, cherished friends and extended families, we thank you all for your constant loving support.

To our amazing doctors, Dr. Scher, Dr. Qawi, Nurse Emily, Dr. Spencer and the DMH nursing staff, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for Vern's exceptional care.

Last but not least, to the "Vern's Happy Hour" gang, no finer send off had! Thanks to all!!

Benner Funeral Services have been entrusted with arrangements.  Cremation has taken place and as per Vern's wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
