Andrew John (Jack) Dillon

Jack Dillon, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Atikokan General Hospital surrounded by his immediate family. Jack was born on October 26, 1930 in St. Boniface, MB to Andrew and Helen Dillon. The family moved to Verona, ON in 1932 where they resided on a family homestead until 1941. After finishing high school he attended Teacher’s College for one year before becoming an educator in Fort Frances in 1960. He taught at St. Mary’s School and then moved to St. Michael’s School. He retired as Principal in 1988. It was here, in Fort Frances, that he met the love of his life, Laura Smits. They were united in marriage on July 21, 1962. Jack was very family focused and was overjoyed to welcome two children, Anne and Andrew, into their lives. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. He was also an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He leaves behind his wife Laura of Atikokan, ON; daughter Anne Dillon of Fort Frances, ON; son Andrew Dillon and wife Maureen of Thunder Bay, ON; grandchildren Kelsey-Rose Dillon of Fort Frances, ON, Michael Dillon and Amy Dillon of Thunder Bay, ON; brother Louis Dillon of Burnaby, BC and sister Agnes and husband Louis Fossesca of Youngstown, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Helen; brother Brendan Dillon; sister Angela and husband Maurice LaForest; sister in law Rae Dillon and nephew Paul LaForest. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON. Parish Prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, ON. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. The honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren Kelsey, Michael and Amy. If friends so desire in memoriam donations may be made to the Atikokan General Hospital or the St. Mary’s Church Youth Group.
