The family of Clara Badiuk, sadly announces her passing on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances Ontario. She was born on January 3, 1922 in Winnipeg Manitoba to Joseph and Ahafia Luczyk.
Clara grew up in Winnipeg Manitoba and graduated from St. Johns Technical High school in Winnipeg. She traveled to Fort Frances to work for her brother-in-law William Ternowetsky at the Emperor Hotel. During her employment in the kitchen she met her husband and love of her life Nicholas (Chief) Badiuk who was also employed there.
Clara and Nick were married in the St. John’s Anglican Church on February 21, 1941. They were happily married for 62 years and raised 3 children in Fort Frances. She was predeceased by Nick in 2003.
Clara was a member of St. Anna’s UWAC and St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Fort Frances. Clara was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and enjoyed singing in the choir. Music was very important and she loved to sing and dance.
Clara’s lifelong dream was to become a nurse. In 1964 she fulfilled that dream and completed the course for RNA at the Laverendrye Hospital School of nursing with exemplary marks. She was passionate about her nursing career and was adored and admired by her patients and her colleagues.
In their retirement years Clara and Nick enjoyed their beautiful cabin at Rainy Lake, and resided in Mesa Arizona during the winter.They became involved in the Ukrainian Church in Phoenix and the clubhouse events at Mesa Regal Resort.They remained lifelong friends with many other snow birds in their resort complex.
Clara moved to Rainycrest Home for the Aged in 2009 after suffering a stroke. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Rainycrest for the passionate care that they administered to Clara.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ahafia Luczyk, her sisters Anne Ewasyke and Mary Morris; her brother Mike Luchik. She is survived by her loving family, Lorraine Solmundson, granddaughters Teri Paley (John), Nicole Solmundson (Dan), JoAnne Solmundson (Gordon), Grandson Darren Solmundson (Karen), all residing in Vancouver. Her son Thomas (Randyne), granddaughter Cynthia, and grandson Timothy residing in Saint John New Brunswick; her son Patrick (Mary) granddaughters Jennifer and Lindsay, living in Rapid City South Dakota. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Sydney, Nicholas, Harlow, and Benjamin also living in Vancouver. Also surviving are her sisters Doris Ternowetsky from Winnipeg MB, Alice (Tom) Filgiano living in Los Angeles CA. her brother Alex (Sadie) Luczyk from Fort Frances. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law Metro & Mary Badiuk, sister-in-law Dixie Badiuk, sister in law Ollie Luchik, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Hallett Hall at Rainycrest, 550 Osborne Street, Fort Frances ON, on Saturday, October 20, 2012 with Father Wayne McIntosh officiating.
A memoriam in Clara’s name has been established at the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, 110 Victoria Avenue Fort Frances P9A 2B7. Clara loved her children and her grandchildren dearly and was always ready to help out in any way possible. The grandchildren were very fond of their grandmother and will always cherish their time together at the Bad Dukes cabin on Rainy Lake.
