Garth was born on March 19, 1947 in Fort Frances to Herb and Ruth Lockman. After graduating from Fort Frances High School, he joined the Fort Frances Firefighters. He worked his way up the ladder, retiring in 1998 as a Captain. Garth and Joy made the cabin in Bear’s Pass their home following his retirement. He was very proud to serve as the Fire Chief for the Halkirk Township. Garth was an official Rink Rat; as a young man he played hockey, and later he coached and refereed. He loved going to watch the “boys” play and rarely missed a game. Garth also enjoyed woodworking and had gifted many people with his beautiful work.
He leaves behind his wife Joy; sons Garth Lockman Jr., Gary (Laura) Lockman, Clint (Helen) Taylor, and Justin (Julie) Taylor; grandchildren Ian, Irvin, Allan and Nikki (and their mother Allison), Alyssa, Madeline, Rachel, Isabelle, and George; great grandchildren Kael, Avery, Clayton and Isaias; sister Doreen (Don) Perry; brother Earl (Nancy) Lockman; the Shoemaker family and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and uncle.
