Helma Wolff

July 3, 1934November 9, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the "Temporary" end to a beautiful love story like no other. Until they meet again.

On November 9, 2020, Helma Wolff (Oma to many) left this earth to meet her saviour. Helma was born July 3, 1934 in Dortmund, Germany and grew up in the small town of Herdeke, Germany.

She met the love of her life, Siegfried Wolff in 1953. They dated for a year, and Siegfried longed for a better life and immigrated to Canada. Helma was too young to follow, but in 1955, she turned of age, and boarded a ship for a 10 day voyage, not speaking the language to reunite with her love. Her and Siegfried were married shortly there after on May 5, 1956. On January 30, 1957, they welcomed the birth of their most precious treasure, Ralph.

Helma started her career at Sanitary Dry Cleaners, and later moved to Perth's Dry Cleaners. After being a cook at a Children's hospital in Germany, Helma changed her focus to cooking and started as a cook at the Fort Frances Jail. From there she went to Rainycrest, where she became the Lead Cook until her retirement in 1996.

Helma lived and loved her family to her core. She loved her Church families, her saviour, singing and dancing. She sang like an angel. She loved her special friends Marlene and Tuck Yuill, Ed and Jeanne Kaun, the Lambert families and all who welcomed them when they immigrated to Canada.

Helma loved her family and took many pictures throughout. She was always holding a camera to capture every special moment. And to her, they were ALL special. Helma and Siegfried made many trips back to Germany to visit with family and to give us a clear picture of where her life started.

She loved to feed her family and friends. She loved to cook. She spent many hours cooking and baking for the family. The family tradition, as many know, were their Gingerbread Houses. Siegfried would bake them at his work and we would have the hounour to decorate them. A tradition that had been passed on and continues today.

In the summer months, Helma loved to tend to her yard. Her flowers and their yard was like an oasis.

Helma was such a special Oma to all of her grandchildren. She was always a "hands on Oma", so involved in all aspects of their lives and always there for them. Even at 82 years of age, she would be on her knees playing with her great grandchildren. Her love was endless.

Helma was predeceased by her mother Clara Aurandt, her step-mother Hilda Aurandt, her father Willhelm Aurandt, her brother Willy Aurandt, sister Adeltraut Osterman (Siegfried), brother-in-law Heinz Wolff (Margot) and sister-in-law Waltrault Scharz (Karl-August).

Helma is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Siegfried, their son Ralph (Cheryle- nee Gill), her grandchildren Trevor (Maryse), Katrina, and their mother Shelley Howell, Eric (Suzanne), Kristina and Billy. Her great grandchildren Elliott, Ainsley, Alice and Elias. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews back home in Germany who love her dearly.

Helma is a person who loved LOVE. If you were lucky enough to be loved by her, you knew a love stronger than most. It was a warmth that radiated off of her.

"We may be far apart, but always close in heart"

Rest in peace Mom, Oma, Meine Kleine Frau. Till we meet again.

Due to COVID Restrictions, the family will have a private gathering at a later date.

If friends so desire in memoriam donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 824 Victoria Avenue, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 2E3

Siggy and Ralph
I am sorry to learn of your wife and mother's passing. Siggy I remember you coming through customs about 1pm each day and remember the bread you baked for us. I remember Ralph from the playground at the arena when we were able to go there. I also remember the yard being well kept
