Born, April 2, 1931 in Liverpool, England to Flora and David Jones, Harry grew up in Liverpool and in leaving school as a young man of 14, worked as an engineering shop boy before apprenticing as a plumber. At the age of 21, he was called to service in the British Military Royal Signal Corps for 2 years, serving in Egypt for 18 months on the Suez Canal, attaining the Rank of Full Corporal before leaving the service in June of 1954. Harry met the love of his life, Dorothy Worrall, on a blind date in 1950 and they were married on June 25, 1955. After his military service was completed he returned to England, working first as a plumber and then became a Public Health Inspector for the Liverpool City Health Department. Immigrating with the family to Canada in 1970, he settled and worked for the Thunder Bay Health Department. Moving the family to Fort Frances in July 1972, he continued to work at the Northwestern Public Health Unit until his retirement in 1994. He was an active member of the Pair n’ Squares Dance Club, teaching square and round dancing, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and of St. John’s Anglican Church. Being a member and volunteer of the local Kiwanis Club, you could always see him cooking up steaks at their steak fry functions and at Sunny Cove Camp. He took his turn as President and Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis, travelling many miles across Canada and the USA attending Conventions and recruiting volunteers.
Harry was a “handy” gentleman and built many homes for him-self, family and friends. He taught his “children” what real life was about.
Harry enjoyed morning coffee at McDonald’s with his dear friends & Taxi drivers Bob and Sam, and his many mates. His extended McDonalds Family will remember him fondly.
Harry was a gentle soul with a generous heart living every-day to its fullest.
