Joan Allison, 80, of 525 Scott Street, Fort Frances, Ontario, passed away peacefully with family by her side at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario, on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
She was born on November 28, 1932, in The Pas, Manitoba to the late Ernie and Lillian Barr.
Joan was united in marriage on July 4, 1953, to William Paul “Bill” Allison. They moved to Fort Frances in 1955, where they made many lasting friendships and many wonderful memories.
Joan had many great accomplishments in her life. She received many awards for volunteering her time and ingenuity, as well as for her athletic prowess. She was inducted into both the Winnipeg and Manitoba Athletic Hall of Fame. Whether she was coaching teams, playing sports or planning events, she gave her best and made everything so much fun.
Joan was a teacher by trade but gave that up when she had her children. Being a parent was the most important job in the world to her and she took that job very seriously. She was ahead of her time in her thinking and she was truly the heart of our family. She will be greatly missed, not only by her children and their families, but by the many, many people she welcomed into her life. Many fun times were had sitting around the table or in the porch at 525!
Left to cherish her memories are her four children, Susan Allison of Fort Frances, ON., David Allison and wife, Marion of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Allison and wife Lisa Beck of Fort Frances, ON., and Maria and husband, Craig Sanders of Fort Frances, ON.
Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Justin, Kyla, Avery, Oliva, Bella, Maddie, Abby, Ian, and Graeme; her two sisters Marie and Kathi, and four brothers Jimmy, Bobby, Eddie, and Joey. The family invites you to join them for coffee and dainties on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 1 until 3 p.m. at Little Beaver Snow Park in Fort Frances.
In memoriam donations may be made to the charity of your choice in care of Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ontario P9A 3M8.
Be a little kinder, take time for others, be patient, be tolerant, volunteer.
