John Lyons

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of John Lyons at his residence.

John was born on October 29, 1946 in Fort Frances, Ontario and lived all his life in the Rainy River District. He had worked as a firefighter with the Ministry of Natural Resources and had also worked for a time at the Steep Rock Iron Mine in Atikokan. He loved riding his “Harley”, going to Bingo’s and Pow Wow’s. He was known for his sense of humor and loved teasing people. He was also an honorary member of the United Native Friendship Centre.

John will be sadly missed by his children John (Kathy) Lyons, Rhonda (Byron) LeClair, Rhea Lyons and their mother Bernadette. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Christopher Lyons, Andrea Smith, Joshua LeClair, Lhea Lyons, Cheyenne Lyons and five great grandchildren and his sisters Edith Lyons, Elaine Dokuchie, Beatrice Lyons-Calder and Sheila “Kim” (Bruce) Matheson and brother Harold Lyons (Gert), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Martha and John H. Lyons Sr., his son Bradley Lyons, grandson Jaret LeClair, brother William “Billy” Lyons, sister Yvonne “Eva” McCormick and nieces Chantal Shypit and Tammy Dokuchie and Brother-in-laws, Tony Jordan, Andrew Dokuchie, George W. Calder and Allan McCormick.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Couchiching First Nation. Father Kris McKusky will officiate followed by interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Green’s Funeral Home from 7 – 9 pm.

The pallbearers will be Rob Prosdocimo, Randy Hogan, Darren McCormick, Mike McCormick, Terry Jourdain and Chris Matheson.

In memoriam donations may be made to the United Native Friendship Centre, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario in care of Green Funeral Home, Box 427, Fort Frances, Ontario P9A 3M8.
