Josh was born on August 18, 1988 in Fort Frances, ON to Greg and Gina Sigurdson. Josh loved living in the Rainy River district, being so close to family and friends and spending time on the area lakes. His love for the outdoors began after moving to the country as a young boy where he could often be found exploring and catching frogs in the pond. Josh was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed participating in local fishing tournaments with his dad and close friends and often caught the most fish. Josh started playing hockey at the age of four and made many close friends throughout his years playing competitive hockey. Josh cherished his annual camping and fishing trips with his close friends.
Anyone that knew Josh will remember his beautiful smile, infectious laugh and how kind and thoughtful he was.
Josh was a beautiful soul, admired by anyone who met him. He was impeccable with his word, never speaking ill of anyone. He had a curiosity about him, a sense of wonder, always showing strength and providing a sense of calmness. He had big dreams. He was innovative, always thinking up new ways of doing things. Josh smiled with his heart and his eyes sparkled with kindness. He was thoughtful, sensitive, and genuine.
Josh loved working with his dad in the trucking business. He picked up his first grease gun at the age of 8 and never stopped. He could fix or run any piece of equipment. Josh earned his Forestry degree from Lakehead University. Josh brought his wealth of experience and knowledge to NorBord in 2015, working as a Woodlands Supervisor. He loved his job and the time he spent working in the bush. He was respected by his colleagues and on his way to a very successful career.
Josh met Katie McTavish in grade 8 but it wasn’t until grade 12 when they became high school sweethearts and fell in love. They were inseparable, graduating High School, supporting each other through university, and taking trips around the world. Josh and Katie bought their first home in Devlin in 2011 where he looked forward to raising his family. Josh married Katie, the love of his life, on October 26, 2013. He was an amazing, loving husband and they were so happy together. Josh and Katie enjoyed going on snowmobiling and four-wheeling adventures together, spending time at the Coran family cabin, and attending the numerous McTavish family get-togethers. On August 29, 2016, Josh became a father to a perfect little boy Vincent Gordon Ray Sigurdson. Josh was a very involved father. He was so proud to share his pictures of Vinny with funny captions with family and friends. The way Vinny smiled at him was a beautiful sight to see.
