Leo Whitecrow (Saa-kaa-taay-gaabow), age 45, of Seine River First Nation, Ontario passed away on Friday, November 2, 2012 in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Leo was born on May 17, 1967 in Fort Frances, Ontario to the late
Leonard Whitecrow and Elsie Blackjack. Leo lived most of his life in Seine River First Nation. He worked as a Firefighter and carpenter in the community for many years. Leo enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gathering wood. He was known for his honesty and was very helpful whenever anyone needed a hand at something. Leo was a fun loving person that enjoyed family gatherings and everything in life, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Johnny and Ronnie Whitecrow, and one sister, Tanya Blackjack.
Leo is survived by four sisters, Lila Blackjack (Brian Kabatay), and Susie Langille all of Seine River First Nation, ON., Stephinie Blackjack of Fort Frances, ON., and Hannah Blackjack of Atikokan, ON.; two brothers, Edward Rodney Rydoell of Seine River First Nation, ON., and Bill Allan Ferdeber of Hailyburry, ON., and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 from 4 p.m. at the Seine River First Nation Gymnasium.
A traditional service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 in the morning at the Seine River First Nation Gymnasium with Elder Ralph Johnson officiating.
A traditional burial ceremony will follow in Seine River First Nation Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Rob Morrison, Gerald Morrison, Phil Ottertail and Jeff Boshkaykin.
Honourary pallbearers will be Shane Whitecrow, Justin Handorgan, Patrick Kabatay and Garret Jim.
