Lotte Piechota

November 2, 1927 – September 5, 2021
Obituary of Lotte Piechota

It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of an independent, classy and outgoing woman, mother, grand mother and great-grand mother, Lotte Elsa Erna Piechota. Lotte slipped away from this life at the Atikokan General hospital on September 5, 2021.

Lotte was born in Germany before the war. At the age of 17 she started her adventure by going to England to become a nurse. Her next destination was Winnipeg, where she worked with polio patients at Misrecordia hospital. It was there that she met her late beloved husband Stanley. Together, they moved to Atikokan to build a wonderful life and start their family. Lotte worked as a nurse at the Atikokan general hospital for many years retiring in 1988.

Lotte loved her life in Atikokan and never stopped travelling to Europe and in the world every year to visit friends, family and new places. She loved skiing, dancing, debating social issues and she never missed an opportunity to volunteer at the different community and hospital events; but most of all Lotte adored her kids Helena (Mark), Andrew (Litsa), her grand children Christopher, Jade and Todd as well as her great grand children Stanley, Archer and Abraham.

Later in life, with the company of her friends and community members, she enjoyed line dancing, Halloween parties, tai chi, craft making and lunches at the Native Friendship Centre, concerts, and travelling to Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver Island.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at the Little Falls Cemetery.

Special thanks to all the staff of the long-term care facility and the Atikokan General Hospital for their care and support. Finally, a special thanks and appreciation to Joyce and Bev for their regular visits and their delicious food and support that they provided to our mother. We may not be able to hear her big laugh anymore, but she will always stay in our heart and memory.

Auf Wiedersehen.
