

Lyla was born on October 24, 1926 in Fort Frances to William and Orillia Lennix. In her younger year, mom worked at the Sanitary Dry Cleaners. She was a Honourary Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies Auxillary, serving as treasurer, president and past president. Mom enjoyed bingo, singing old hymns, curling and bowling. She had a real talent for baking, and her pie crusts were legendary. Lyla also loved playing cards, and teaching her grandchildren how to play cribbage. While living at Rainycrest mom was remembered for her good sense of humour and her infectious laugh.
She leaves behind her children Brent (Mary) Calder, Valerie (Robert) Harrison, Cathy (Jerry) Woods, Betty (John) DeGagne and Clint Calder (Sarah-lynn); grandchildren Sherri Levert (Pat), Carylee Calder, Amanda (Shawn) Jourdain, Chris Calder, Andrea (Tyler) Bell, Erica (Tyler) Bennett, Curtis (Kat) Harrison, Jeremy Cunningham (Christine), Aimee Cunningham (Sean), Dan (Natalie) DeGagne, Nathan (Sarah) DeGagne, Cheyenne Calder (Garrett), Abbey Calder and their mother Norma Jean Calder; 25 great grandchildren; brother William (Ellen) Lennix; brothers-in-law Lynn Norris (Margaret),Jim Norris and Gordon (Charlotte) Calder; sisters-in-law Jane (Jim) McLeod, Florence Hill and Phyllis Shine as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Lyla was predeceased by her parents William and Orillia Lennix; husbands George W.Calder and Harold Norris; son Gerald Calder; sisters Margaret Nault and Edna Quinn and brothers Gerald and Stanley Lennix.
A memorial service was held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with a Pastor Diane Clifford officiating.
Cremation has taken place with interment in the Dryden Cemetery at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers were Lyla’s grandchildren Sherri Levert, Carylee Calder, Amanda Jourdain, Chris Calder, Andrea Bell, Erica Bennett, Curtis Harrison, Jeremy Cunningham, Aimee Cunningham, Dan DeGagne, Nathan DeGagne, Cheyenne Calder and Abbey Calder.
Should friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made at the Toronto Dominion Bank in Fort Frances for her grandson Nathan DeGagne, who is awaiting a heart transplant.
