Mabel was born on February 5, 1946 to Roderick and Lucy Cyr. She lived in the community of Naicatchewenin First Nation. Mabel attended Assinaboi Residential School. She worked at Quetico Camp as a cook and did odd jobs around the community before becoming janitor at the Band office. She held this position for 21 years. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching hockey and giving herself manicures. She was a caregiver to many children in the community. When her health was good she enjoyed traveling, especially to gospel meetings.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Pam and husband Kenneth Bombay; grandchildren Deanna (Ted), Christine, Shane, Jonah and Christian Cyr; great grandchildren Thearon Green, Amara and Asher Cyr; adopted grandchildren Natasha, Damon and Airrol Jack; brothers Norman (Gladys) Cyr and Wilf (Dorothy) Cyr; brother-in-law Ray Jourdain; nephews Zachariah (Cheyenne) Cyr, Charles (Nikki) and Shane (Tess) Wood, Brad (Rhonda) Dahlia, Mikayla and Lily, and Gary Jourdain; niece Carolyn Jourdain. Special cousins Irene Smith, Delia Smith, Alice Smith and Marcella Cyr. Mabel had a special place in her heart for Colleen, Terry, Sharon, Gloria, and Janice Smith and their children and grandchildren.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents Roderick and Lucy Cyr; daughter Jacqueline Cyr-Nelson; sister; Mary Jourdain; brother Buddy Paul Cyr.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 7-9pm at Green Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 10am at the Naicatchewenin First Nation Gymnasium with Brother Larry Laquette officiating. Interment will take place in the Naicatchewenin First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Nathaniel Councillor, Riel Councillor, Bob Morrison, Ted Green, Trevor Smith, Sean Councillor, Elijah Smith, Ken Bombay and Levi Rittau.
The honourary pallbearers will be Christian Cyr, Jonah Cyr, Shane Cyr, Thearon Green, Wilf Cyr Sr., Marcella Cyr, Delia Smith, Alice Smith, Irene Smith, Elsie Green and Lorraine Smith.
