Born Margaret Pollard, Muggins was born on January 19, 1920 in Hurkett, Ontario but spent most of her childhood and adult life on Rainy Lake. It was there that she learned to become the hardworking and resourceful woman that we all loved and respected. There are very few who did not reap the benefit of her beautifully hand knit socks and mittens, skilful blueberry picking (usually in for the form of pie), and joy of fishing and gardening. Her greatest joy in life though was her family and friends, to which she was exceedingly devoted. Her love of children made her a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunty. The world is full of fond childhood memories thanks to Muggins. And if the details of a certain memory were fuzzy, you just had to ask Muggins; her recollection of events was uncanny! For that very reason she also served as an integral link to the past for her many family members. A historian in her own right, she was always armed with a story that would leave her listeners in awe, not only of the resiliency to the hardships endured in the past, but also the good times. Many of her stories told of her talent and love of music, and what she was most well known for, jigging! Her cabin on Rainy Lake was the site of many good times, and she loved spending time there. She spent countless hours boating, fishing off the dock, watching her grandchildren swim, and moving boulders from one side of the property to the other (a favourite funny thing to tease her about). Muggins warm and caring sprit will be sorely missed by many of us remaining, but she surely welcomed with open arms by her predeceased parents, brother and husband Chester
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Leona Wilson of Thunder Bay, Beatrice (Jim) Brown of Int’l Falls, MN and Albert (Angie) George of Atikokan. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brad (Jamie) and their children Parker, Adison and Carter, Brian (Diana) and their children Heather and Chelsea, Richard, Whitney and her daughter Nevaeh, Tara , Brandy (David), Travis (Carly) and their children Carter and Colton, Lisa (Brody) and their children Rori and Bree as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Barney and Susan Pollard, her husband Chester and her brother John Lute Pollard and son-in-law Tom Wilson.
