Mersini Bastas

October 10, 1949December 31, 2020

On Thursday, December 31, 2020 in her 71st year, Mersini Bastas passed away at the LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON. She was born on October 10, 1949 in Pamphila, Lesvos, Greece to Panagiotis and Triantafillo Manolakos. The Manolakos family immigrated to Canada when Mersini was a young teenager, first settling in Montreal before moving to Alberta. Mersini had a love of food and this lead to a career in restaurants and catering. She and her husband, John Bastas ran several restaurants in Alberta before moving to Yellowknife. Unfortunately John passed away in Yellowknife. Mersini was fortunate enough to find love again with Randy Fournier in 2005 and in 2007 she retired from Catering to move with him to South America for work. Mersini enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Mersini is the beloved loving partner Randy Fournier; dear mother of Nikoloas Bastas (Jamie), Sarantia Bastas and Andrew Fournier (Joban); grandmother of Niko and beloved sister of Maria, Vavara, George, Costa and Mirta. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband John Bastas and brother Strate. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held when family and friends are free to gather and celebrate this remarkable woman.

So sorry to hear of your loss.
Although we never met, her legacy of being a super nice person preceded her.
One day we will all get together and remember the good times.

Mersini was a lovely lady and always a joy to talk to. Somehow, even when first meeting her, she didn’t feel like a stranger but more like a long lost friend.
My family and I will miss our jovial conversations and laughter.

Mersini was loved by the Fournier family. Mersini brought lots of laughs and fun to our family get togethers and will be missed. We are sending lots of love your way Randy, as you mourn the loss of your best friend. May your memories bring some smiles during these tough days. And we hope Mersini's belief and trust in God's promise - "He will call, the dead will answer, they will live at His command" - also brings comfort to you Randy, and her family and friends.

I’m checking to see if this is my friend Mersini that I knew in Yellowknife, NT?
