Mike was born on Saturday, April 10, 1926 in Strathclair, Manitoba to the late John and Anastasia (Nellie)Shmyr.
Mike loved to keep busy. He was always working on some sort of a project that had to do with building, something physical or being with someone. Faith Lutheran Church also recognized Mike with an Ontario Volunteer Award and also with a plaque for his dedicated work and leadership for the church renovations. He was very humbled by and appreciative of these recognitions as each one of them came as a surprise.
Mike also served in the Canadian Army from 1945 to 1946 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Atikokan.
Mike loved to travel to see family while on vacation or for the many special occasions he was invited to. He also looked forward each year to the Lions 5M-10 midwinter convention.
