

Norman “Kewaitinigapow” Peters, age 74 years, of Stanjikoming First Nation, Ontario passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario
Norman was born on January 19, 1937 in Thunder Bay, Ontario to the late Jim and Mary Peters. Norman grew up in Kashabowie, Ontario. Norman’s first jobs included mining, trapping and working as a tourist guide, where he made many friends during that time. Norman also worked as a firefighter for the M.N.R. for 35 years.
Norman’s interests included traditional regalia making, attending the Pow-wow trail Stateside and in Canada. He also enjoyed travelling and spending time at casinos. Norman will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Philip, Cecilia, Lawrence, Alice, Julia and Margaret.
Norman is survived by his partner, Agnes Kabatay; stepchildren, Ron Peters, and children Mitchell, Malcolm, Quill and Autumn of New York, Norma Peters and son Ron of Toronto, ON., Darlene Adams and children Jeffrey and Brenna of Fort Frances, Mary Lou Adams and children, Kaitlyn and Casha of Thunder Bay, ON, Diane Adams of Winnipeg, MB., Brian Adams and children Chelsea, Christopher, Brianna, Brielle and Rowan of Saskatoon, SK., and Casey (Yvonne) Adams and children Jade, Jordan, Kierra and Kacie of Fort Frances, ON. He is also survived by one brother Jimmy Peters of Thunder Bay, ON., and two sisters, Nora Peters of Thunder Bay, ON., and Evelyn Peters of B.C.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A traditional funeral service will be held on Friday May 6, 2011 in the morning at the Stanjikoming First Nation Fitness Centre. Gilbert Smith will officate with interment in Stanjikoming First Nation Cemetary.
A wake will be held on Thursday evening at the Stanjikoming Fitness Centre.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Adams, Alex Cochrane, Johnny Yerxa, Paul Henderson, Jason Johnson, and Desmond Jourdain.
Honourary pallbearers will be Ray Deafy, Paul Nadjiwan, Ron Ranville, Art Moore, Harry Kabatay, Alfred Kabatay, and Jim Windigo.
