Sadly, with his family at his side, Orval Robert Armstrong passed away on the evening of June 2nd, 2012 at the age of 63. He was the son of Vernon and Edna Armstrong. Orval was born on St. Patrick’s Day, 1949. He grew up with his four brothers and sister in Dance Township and at Birch Point Camp, his fathers fishing resort on Northwest Bay. As a youngster he spent much of his time fishing, hunting, trapping and enjoying the outdoors.
In his adult life he worked primarily in the construction and logging business, from Fort Frances, to Flanders, Dryden and Atikokan, with a few years spent in Alberta in the late seventies and early eighties.
In his later years Orval enjoyed spending time with Sandy working in his garden, boat riding, fishing and many outdoor activities. He was always working doing something, upgrading his home, to hanging cupboards, or just helping others whenever he could.
Orval is survived by his wife Sandy, two sons, Chad (Nerissa) of Fort Frances, Ontario, and Vernon (Brooke) of Kakabeka Falls, Ontario and his daughter Lisa Badiuk (Thor) of Fort Frances as well as his extended family including Jason Happy (Carrie) of Fort Frances, Ontario, Chad Happy (Paige) of Ottawa, Ontario, and Tasha Glover of Fort Frances, Ontario. He was also the proud grandfather of ten, Courtney and Jenelle Armstrong, Koen Armstrong, Tristen and Tayah Badiuk, Sierra and Paige Happy, Lucas Happy and Austin and Zachary Strom.
He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all having many very fond memories of time spent with “Uncle Orv”.
He is also survived by his five siblings, Edward (Gerry) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Laverne Lampi (Heikki) of Fort Frances, Ontario, Dennis (Yvonne) of Orlando, Fl., Gerald (Peggy) of Fort Frances, Ontario, and Gary (Linda) of Ft. McMurray, Alberta.
Orval was predeceased by his father in 1971 and his mother in 1984.
He is going to be missed immensely by his family and all that knew him. We’ll always remember that on a hot summer afternoon in the town of Fort Frances, probably the coolest and most relaxing spot to be was under the big spruce tree beside Orval and Sandy’s house. There always seemed to be a breeze there and a guaranteed cold one in the fridge.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, ON with Reverend Barbara Miller officiating.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
The pallbearers will be Larry Steele, Leon DeGagne, Alan Roy, Jason Happy, Jim Armstrong, and Wade Armstrong.
