Peggy Lee Johnson

January 29, 1949September 9, 2019

On the morning of Sept 9, 2019, surrounded by family, Peggy Lee Johnson (nee Haney) 70 years passed away at her home.

At 15 years old, Mom met the love of her life and spent 53 years married to Dad. It always makes us smile to think of our parents walking together holding hands and having an unspoken language between them. Together they raised 3 children that graced them with 7 ‘grand-kids’ and 1 great grandson.

Mom took pride in caring for her home and family, and in later years transitioned to the role of growing her fudge business, creating her Eye on Education group, serving as a board member on the RRDSB, and being a Mary Kay consultant and Young Living representative.

Mom enjoyed every second with her grandchildren and was a supportive and encouraging force in their lives. She was proud of their accomplishments and always made them feel loved and treasured. There was nothing Mom enjoyed more than sitting in a boat with Dad, or relishing in the glow of a bonfire surrounded by family and friends. She fondly remembered the ‘Mine Centre Shindigs’; her mini getaways to the casino with her sister Twyla (which always proved to be a fun adventure); her ‘little projects,’ that she embarked on with her sister by choice and best friend, Debbie (always a bit more challenging for Dad as opposed to Mom and Deb as they embarked on their plans of action).

Mom believed in taking care of oneself, regularly swimming with the girls at Aquafit, eating healthy, and remedying with natural forces such as garlic and young living oils. Mom was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and volunteered her efforts at many community events.

Mom cherished her friendships and was grateful for the blessings in her life. She always welcomed people into her home and life, and had an ability to make others feel like they belonged there. Mom was her children’s’ biggest cheerleader and our voice of reason. Her strength and loving nature will help guide us as we move forward. We are all so very grateful and thankful that we had our time with her.

Mom passed away from brain cancer, but it didn’t stop her from fighting valiantly until the end of her life and she never stopped believing that, “Today is a good day to have a good day.”

To hold her memories close are her husband, Bill Johnson; children, Rhonda (Don) Howells, Rochelle (Steve) Luoma, and Willie (Jenn) Johnson; grandchildren, DJ (Heather), Garrett (Cheyenne), Raina, Kaylee, Shya, Aubrey, Ainsley and Declan; her brothers and sisters, Terry (Judy), Sandy (Gayle), Randy (Sandy), Twyla (Ed), Rusty (Candis) and Tammy; sister by choice and best friend, Debbie (Anthony); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom is rejoicing in heaven with her parents Roy and Helen Haney and her sister Rodelle.

A celebration of Mom’s life will be held upstairs at the Fort Frances Legion from 2-4 pm on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019.

The family gratefully requests that in Mom’s memory you support the Tamarack House in Thunder Bay, she was very gratefully for their care and hospitality. Mom loved to look after others and in that spirit please carry on her memory with a good deed or a kind gesture.

I met Peggy at the FF Pool Complex. Peggy was a gentle and thoughtful person. I am not one to commonly turn acquaintances into friends but Peggy's smile & sense of humour made it easy for me to consider her as a friend. My client & I always looked forward to visiting with Peggy before and after the aqua therapy classes.
Peggy told great stories both interesting and entertaining. I appreciated her health advice, and was grateful for her easy way of sharing honestly and poignantly her own health trials and triumphs.
Peggy spoke of her family often, it was obvious her family was one of her greatest joys. We would laugh about our lives with our children, husbands and grandchildren together as we compared with pride & sometimes a sigh new stories each week.
I missed Peggy a lot when her health would no longer allow her to attend the classes at the pool. I admired Peggy's energy and drive, her dedication to her fitness and health was something I aspired to.
Peggy's family is very fortunate to have had her in their lives. I am so sorry that illness has taken Peggy, such a vibrant person out of this world. Peggy will be missed. Sincerely Tamara Robson
