Peter Basaraba passed away peacefully at LaVerendrye Hospital on December 5th after a brief illness. Peter was born July 6, 1922, the youngest of 9 children to John and Katherine Basaraba near Roblin, Manitoba. Peter is survived by his wife Polly, daughter Patricia, son Allan (Laurel) and 3 grandchildren Matt, Kate and Joe Basaraba along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Mary Urbanski, Polly Korman, Ann Welenchenko, Rose Beck, Jessie Turewich, Effie Tryhuk, Helen Kitzul and brother John Basaraba.
Peter served in the navy during WWII. He was a skilled carpenter, and an outdoorsman. Peter loved flying his J3 Piper Cub to his trap line north of Atikokan. He was a big supporter and proud fan of his grandchildren in their sports activities.
The family invites you to join them in a celebration of Peter’s life on Wednesday, December 8th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau located at the CN Train Station, 140 Fourth Street West. If desired memoriam donations can be made to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
