OBITUARY
Walter Andrusco
April 10, 1907 – November 7, 2012
We announce with profound sorrow that on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, Walter Andrusco passed away peacefully at LaVerendrye General Hospital at the age of 105.
Mourning his passing are his three children Leda (Freddie) Beck, Billy (Karen) Andrusco and Julie Andrusco; grandchildren Mary Ann (Joe) King, Sarah Andrusco, Jennefer (Udi) Andrusco-Daon, Billy Joe Andrusco; JoAnna Keller; three great-grandchildren Olivia, Ben and Ariel, and several nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents Mary and Theodore, and brothers Emil and Nick.
Walter was born on Wednesday, April 10, 1907 in Lwow, Western Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with his Father in 1923 settling in Dauphin Manitoba. Walter relocated to Fort Frances in 1932. He was an original founding member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and held various positions on the church executive. In 1946 he organized the church choir and this dedicated career lasted 72 years. In 1972 Walter retired from the local paper mill after 35 years of employment. This great love of music and contribution to the community began in 1933 as a member of the Fort Frances Civic Band, and in 1979 he retired as conductor/bandmaster. We are proud of all Dad’s accomplishments, but his greatest of all was simply being the man that he was every single day of his life. He leaves a legacy as teacher of music and dance, director of choirs and bands, a thinker, innovator and pathfinder who totally embraced his community always leading by example, all the while displaying a wonderful, and at times, roguish sense of humour. At one time or another, he was a teacher and Father to all of us.
Visitation for Walter will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm with parish prayers being offered at 7:00 pm at Green Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 9:30 am at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Henry Lakusta will officiate followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The active pallbearers will be Joe King, Michael Andrusco, Allan Andrusco, Peter Andrusco, Paul Wepruk and Bill Wepruk.
The honourary pallbearers will be the remaining church and choir members.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church or the charity of your choice in care of Green Funeral Home, Box 427, Fort Frances, Ontario P9A 3M8

It is so hard to believe that a year has passed. Walter's legacy however continues and personally I do cherish his memory through Mary Ann who is my best friend and confidante. Walter will continue to be a huge part of how I educate future nurses in successful aging. God Bless his soul and may God protect his family.

We were very saddened to hear about the passing of Uncle Walter(Weeks). But there are so many memories that we have of "Weeks" and Auntie Mary especially visits to the Rainy Lake where he would give our son Andrew chocolate bars or lunches at Bridgeman's across. But we will miss his keen sense of humour and his love of all his family...(even us English ones!). As a legend in his own time, he will never be forgotten but lovingly remembered.

Families
Sorry that I could not be with you in person for Walter's service, but please know that I was with you in spirit.
Walter was a special person who touched my life and others in a very positive way. I am honoured to have known him. I saw him as an outstanding music teacher, a role model, and a community leader. He cared about others. He was highly respected and made a difference for many.
When I visited, in the later years, he always welcomed me, and would offer me bread that he had made. I loved talking to your dad. He always had some advice for me. I learned from him. He had wisdom and a passion for life.
Please accept my sincere sympathy.
As always your good friend

Dido Andrusco has been my inspiration in how to live life to the fullest. I have learned so much from him from his faithful and loyal granddaughter, Mary Ann. Remember that a part of him lives on in each and everyone one of you, his family. Family was most important to him, to be nurtured and cherished. His life lessons hopefully have been instilled in all of you, his lovely family.May God keep and protect you. Vichnaya Pamyat!

To the Family of Gido. I have heard so many wonderful things about Gido's life I feel we actually knew each. I know this has been a long enduring battle on Gido's behalf and I pray he and his wife will now be together; although, he will be sadly missed.
