He came to Atikokan in 1952, working for Steep Rock Iron Mine. When the mine shut down he worked for the Township of Atikokan for 16 years until his retirement. He was an avid gardener, spending hours hoeing and weeding. Every day he picked raspberries, sharing with family, friends and neighbours. William was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose; serving as Secretary and Administrator for many years.
One of his greatest joys in William’s life were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of his life and he truly cherished every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Olga; daughter Joan Wiens (Richard); sons William Jr. and Dale (Donna); daughters Linda Manns (Robert), Bonnie Clairmont (Eugene); 9 grandchildren Erica Lantin (Sebastien), Robert Manns (Trisha), Jaynie and Jonathon Clairmont, Joshua and Adam Wiens, Hayley, Julie and Matthew Jaculak; 2 great grandchildren Chloe Lantin and Hunter Manns and sisters Emily Parnell and Pat Stoyka.
William was predeceased by an infant daughter; mother Lina; father Fred and brothers Walter and Tony.
Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11 a.m.
Cremation has taken place with interment in the family plot at Little Falls Cemetery.
