Winnefred Rousseau

Winnie was born on December 14, 1930 in Mulvihill, Manitoba. She moved to the Rainy River District in the early 1940’s. She was united in marriage to Oliver (Bud) Rousseau on November 3, 1948. Together they raised 7 children. She was an avid quilter, making over 400 quilts. She was an active member of her community. She was a founding member of the Sew & Sews Quilting Club. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the McIrvine Women’s Institute, St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League, the Hospital Auxillary as well as The Rainycrest Auxillary. She was an Honourary member of the Ladies Auxillary Branch 29 of the Royal Canadian Legion. She enjoyed singing with the Hallet Hall Coraliers at Rainycrest. She loved to dance at the dances that her husband Bud and son Dale frequently played at. She loved being around people and always welcomed them warmly into her home.

She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Abelone Izzard; husband Oliver; sons David and Dale; brothers William and Frank Izzard and sisters Irene Huntley and Ethel Raper.

Winnie leaves behind her sister Vi Plumridge; sons Gerald (Barbara), Robert (Wendy), Kenneth (Lori), William (Annie) and daughter Annette (Jacques) and daughter-in-law Louise. Her Grandchildren are Tina, Melissa (Scott), Jason, Bobby Joe (Karly), Jenelle (Rob), Kimberly (Jeff), Rodney (Albert), Danielle, Sadie and David (Ashley) and her Great Grandchildren are Elizabeth and Jessica Steele, Samantha and Cassidy Clinton, MykArthur and Sakura Rousseau, Samantha and Jeremy Christie, Chloe and Gabriella Grandbois, Benjamin Haddad, and Axton & Malenah Rousseau; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON with Father Alan Albao officiating.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
