Mami, how fast time goes! Today is the second anniversary of your passing and all I've been thinking about is your face.  The mental effort I have to make after two years to remember every mark, even every wrinkle I was so used to seeing, makes me all the more upset.  It only helps when I think about you not being in the horrible pain you endured the last two days.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss you.  I need you every day as a mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and everything else.  How I wish I could pick up the phone and hear your voice if only for a second!  There is so much I have to deal with on my own wondering what your opinion would be!  I feel so lost so many times without my mother's genuine advise that if it wasn't for my faith in God, I don't know how I would function.   Knowing the strength of our faith gives me the peace I need.  Realizing how much God gave us both to share those months in the hospital gives me comfort and confirms His presence in our lives.  You continued to teach me until you took your last breath!  I have no doubt that God was waiting for you to enter his kindom.  I don't question his timing or reasons, I only wish we had experienced that mystery years before in a different context.  I miss you so much mami.  Te quiero mucho, Alina

Happy birthday mami!  Today is your 71 birthday and although you are not phisically with us, you are definitely with us in every other sense. I can sometimes smell you, even hear you.  It's been a long process without you, but we are doing all we can to make you proud and go on with life as you would have wanted. I feel an extra sense of responsibility being the oldest and the girl, but I Iove my family so much that it's a great feeling to know I am there for them. We all miss you so much!  There is not a thing big or small in our lives that doesn't make us think of you immediately. I miss talking to you and being able to get your take on things. Now when I talk to you, I get the feeling that you show me your opinion in different ways, and somehow you manage to comfort me when I need it.  I love you! Mami, today is a year since I last saw your face. I wake up thinking of you every morning and how free your soul must be, how your day is spent in a different dimension with God!  I feel you very close to me all the time, which can't be nothing more than the fact that you are.  I am not mourning your passing to be with God, I mourn my missing you terribly.  I find myself reaching for my phone to call you all the time to tell you the news, big or small, good or bad, as we always did with each other.  Today is specially painful to see Jose, papi and tia so sad.  The kids miss you all the time and tell me how they wish you could see all they are accomplishing. Of course I tell them that you are there not just seeing them, but helping them and guiding them.  We miss you sooooo much! Their graduations are coming up and Frances' acceptance to FIU is the greatest news so far. Katherine is going to Gibbons and looks like she may make the volleyball team! Jose Alejandro and I are taking care of dad as best we can and try to keep him busy.  Whenever he gets upset or down, I remind him that we are only here for a very brief time.  What are several decades in the context of time?  No matter how long we live here on earth, it does not compare to the time we will be together in eternity. I am determined to make us a strong family and continue to be as close as we always have been with your memory in the center of all we do.  I want to live my life making you proud and happy by seeing us happy.  I love you so much mami! I miss you more than words can express. Alina

Today is nine months since your passing and it feels like it was last week. The pain persists, but you learn to live with it. I look forward to the day I will see you again, till then, I miss you so much mami!

Today is 6 months since my mother's passing.  Yet, it feels like it was yesterday when we were faced with the news of her diagnosis and forever since I saw her last, all at the same time.  People say time heals, but this time is different!  When your mother goes, half of your soul goes and your life is changed forever.  I find comfort in knowing that she is with God and without pain of any kind, but my heart will always ache for her absence.  I love you and miss you soooooooo much mami! Alina

Mami, cada día te extraño mas y me haces mas falta!!!

They say you never forget your first love.  My mom was not only my first love but also the strongest love I had ever felt until the birth of Alejandro and Johanna.  Losing her to leukemia has been the most difficult thing I've ever had to endure.  It has left me with mixed emotions ranging from pain to disbelief.  Often throughout the day, I imagine that my mom and I are only separated by a
short vacation that will end soon with the two of us sharing a recount of our respective experiences.  I continue to day dream almost obsessively about sharing another recount of our time away from each other as we had done so on numerous prior occasions after our trips.  Unfortunately, these momentary day
dreams conclude with the sad realization that my mom's passing is irreparable and I won't have a conversation with her until my calling.  
Fortunately, I am left with beautiful memories of our 40 years together on this earth.  The fact is that I could not have asked for a more caring, patient and selfless mother.  On her death bed she was more concerned about her loved ones in her eminent absence than with her own well being.  In fact, only forty-eight hours prior to her passing, my mom began telling jokes to all of us near her bed.  In spite of our efforts to hide the truth about the severity of her condition, my mom had a way of reading our sad faces and realizing that we knew something she was not suppose to know.  That was my mom.  Her death bed jokes was her own humble way of conveying to us that the cancer could break her body but not her spirit.  This was her own way of saying ill be ok.  
God has been amazing for allowing me to have such a close relationship with her throughout my life.  There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed my conversations with her.  My mom was interested in whatever I was experiencing in my life at 
the time and could cary on a conversation about anything because she an extremely cultured lady.  She was mostly interested in what her grandchildren were doing.  It was hard to overlook that her four grandchildren were her daily obsession.
Although I live in peace knowing that I told my mom te quiero mucho millions of times, I cant help to wish for one more conversation with her, one more te quiero mucho.  At this juncture I would be thrilled with even a long distance telephonic conversation but I know it's impossible.  Instead, I have a choice to honor her.  The best way to honor the most perfect person I've 
ever met is to teach my children the way she taught me and keep 
those parental qualities alive.
I am honored knowing that I have and will continue to emulate 
my mom when teaching my kids because her parenting skills were 
pretty darn perfect after all.  Te quiero mucho mami. Jose A.

My mother Aleida fought  the hardest battle of her life with valor and dignity.  Her will, as well as those who loved her so much was to enjoy many more years together, but God's will was different and the one that fit his divine plan. I'm thankful for the love, values, and morals that my mother gave us and that I am now hoping to make her proud by passing on to my children Frances and Katherine.  This was a very difficult time in our lives, but through it all I learned that the bond between a mother and daughter is one of the strongest and most amazing gifts God has given us. Life is a mystery that only He understands. Blessed are those who believe in Him and trust that His peace will get us through the path he has for each and everyone of us! THANK YOU GOD FOR MY SPECIAL MOTHER! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE AND NEED YOU MOM!!!

Dear Alina and Jose and Family,
