

Amalia was born in Camaguey, Cuba to Bernabe Fructuoso De Varona and Andrea De La Mercedes on August 15, 1925.
She attended school in Cuba and had a teaching degree. After immigrating from Cuba, she pursued a degree from Barry University in Miami in the late 60’s and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, in Teaneck NJ and obtained two master's degrees in education and Spanish. She was married to Gumersindo Amador on April 30, 1949, in Cuba. She retired as a Spanish Foreign Language Teacher in Montclair High School with over 25 years of service.
She received numerous recognitions in the field of education, and she inspired other members of the family to pursue degrees in education.
Amalia is preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Gumersindo Amador, and her grandson, Isaac Amador.
Amalia was the third eldest of eight siblings, Manolo, Arquimedes, Mercedes,Eduardo, Angel, Angela, and Pilar.
Amalia is survived by her beloved son and his wife, Emerson and Beth Amador, her granddaughter, Jennifer Rose Amador, and her cherished sister, Angela Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317, US, on August 3, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317, US, on August 3, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
