Another fun fact about Amalia other than she always needed her   Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in the shade 520 Carnal.  She had like 5 available at all times.
 she also loved collecting plants every time I would come over she would make sure to show me which plants were given to her by who I actually have a snipping of one that her brother Titi gave her. It’s my pride and joy.  

Amalia was incredibly sharp. She was always working on math equations because she worried about losing her memory. I don’t blame her. As she grew older, she did begin to forget some of our names, but she always recognized our faces. More importantly, she knew we mattered to her, and she mattered so very much to us.

Toward the end, my heart was heavy because she lived so far away, and it became difficult for me to visit as often as I wanted. One day someone  told me that she pointed across the room in the nursing home and said, “Elizabeth is over there.”  She believed I was with her every day. And in my heart, I was. ( she also said papito Gordo and papito flaco and Herenia was around too) 

I wear both her and her sister in my locket, and I keep them in my prayers every single day. Amalia was, and always will be, a treasure. I am forever grateful that she was my family, and I will carry her love and memory with me always.

Part 1 Amalia Luz

As my Abuelo would say ….Ay, Amalia… how I miss you already.

What can I say about my great-aunt other than she truly outdid herself? She always told me her goal was to live to be 100 years and 2 days old because Napole made it to 100 years and 1 day. Well, lo and behold, she surpassed even that—living to be 100 years and 10 months. And somehow, she even had two birthdays every year: one in August and her real birthday in October! (Something to do with paperwork when she moved here from Cuba)

Whenever I picked her up for family gatherings, we shared so many conversations. We had big talks, little talks, and even though we didn’t always agree on everything, we always had a special bond. The love between us was never in question.

She constantly talked about Emy and Beth and would proudly show me every picture she had of Jenny and Isaac. She held them close to her heart, and they were among her greatest joys.

For me, she stepped into the grandmother role I had been missing. She was my grandmother’s sister, my mom’s aunt and godmother, and to me she became so much more. She was incredibly smart, wonderfully funny, and, my goodness, did she have an appetite! Yet somehow she stayed so tiny.
That was very important to her. 

One memory that always makes me smile was the day we were eating at an outdoor restaurant when, out of nowhere, the sky opened up. It was pouring rain, but Amalia refused to leave until she finished her pancakes. And who do you think ran out into the downpour to help her? That’s right—me! I can’t say I did the best job, but with a little help we finally got her inside. I’ll never forget that day. That storm came out of nowhere, and somehow she still made finishing those pancakes her priority.

AMALIA, my Aunt, my Godmother-
Heartfelt love forever!  She taught me how she corrected papers for school. She taught me how to behave properly with just one look.
She spoiled me as her own cause Emerson was born a few (6) years after me.  I would ride my bicycle all over town and always end up at her house, She & my uncle would always bring me home with Emy and my bike in the trunk!

Tía, It is hard to find the words to say goodbye. One hundred years is an incredible life, and I feel so grateful that I had the privilege of knowing you and being part of your family. You witnessed a century of history, but what I’ll remember most is the love, wisdom, and strength you shared with those around you. Your stories, your kindness, and the way you carried yourself left an impression that time will never erase. Thank you for every smile, every conversation, every lesson, and every memory. Whether you realized it or not, you helped shape the lives of everyone who loved you. Your resilience and grace are qualities I will always admire and strive to carry with me.
 
 As I say goodbye, I won’t think of this as the end. Instead, I’ll think of the extraordinary life you lived and the beautiful memories you’ve left behind. I will carry those memories with me always.
 
 Thank you for being such a special part of my life. Until we meet again, rest peacefully.

A beautiful woman indeed, with a blessed life spanning an entire century.  I can remember spending time with her at the Amador household.  She would often help translate so I could also talk with her husband.  Our conversations would always be warm, sincere and of course charming.   I always walked away with happy thoughts.  May you rest in peace.  You will always be thought as, and remembered as, a warm and wonderful woman, who raised an amazing family.
