OBITUARY

Angel Natanael Carbonell

December 29, 1931February 20, 2021

Angel Natanael Carbonell lovingly known as Viejo, Pops or Pipo (Pee-Poh). Angel was 89 years strong when he died from complications of leukemia on February 20th, 2021 at his home in Miami Lakes, Florida. He was born in Oriente Cuba in 1931 to Andres Carbonell and Angela Escalona. By the age of 36 he was a skilled mechanic who left Cuba in the 1960’s for the United States. The week he arrived in Los Angeles he was invited by a common friend to a party being thrown by Zayde to honor her sister Victoria’s arrival from Colombia. Angel and Victoria soon married and a year later had their first child, their son Angel. They eventually moved to Houston, TX where they had their beautiful daughter Stephanie. 28 years ago he moved to Florida to be closer to family and soon after his daughter Stephanie would join them. Angel the eldest son eventually moved to Florida also. The family flourished in Florida and soon there were three grandchildren to love. Angels purpose was his family. He worked to provide a good life for them and built a home that always had an open door. He was a man with no judgement in his heart, you could tell him what you were going through and he could love you where you were. He always had friends and when we finally got him to retire at 81 years old, he spent his days playing dominoes and always staying at the top of his game! He was a craftsman with many skills that he used to retire from two careers, one as a diesel big rig mechanic and the other as a maintenance engineer. He used those skills to build an addition onto their home in Houston. He was the man we called when something broke, when “anything” broke, he knew how to do everything or he’d figure it out. He was a “maker” and he loved to create and nurture, he gardened and he painted, not only painting the house, the planters and everything he could find to paint, which drove Victoria crazy by the way, he also did oil paintings on canvas which he taught himself from art books. He needed to be needed and he needed to be doing things. Angel is survived by his wife of 52 years Victoria Carbonell, his children Angel Carbonell and his wife Melissa, Stephanie Jimenez and her husband Cesar, and 3 grandchildren Karina, Antonio and Victoria.
