

Gore, Betty Lou, raised in a small town in IL, was the wife of Jack Gore, editor of the Ft. Lauderdale News in the 1950s. A native of Fairfield, IL., the former Betty Lou Stickrod moved to Ft. Lauderdale in about 1940 and worked on the Jungle Queen and as a legal secretary. In 1941, she married Jack Gore, whose father R.H. Gore owned the Ft. Lauderdale News. The Gore family owned the Ft. Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel newspapers until 1963, when they were sold to the Tribune Company. After her husband's death in 1982, Mrs. Gore remained busy with charitable activities. She was a founder of the Charity Guild and active in Beaux Arts. She was very active with charity balls and social clubs, was always beautiful and gracious, and was a woman of indomitable spirit. She is survived by sons Richard of Columbus, OH, David and Laurence of Ft. Lauderdale; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 4061 N.
