Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 10, 1940, Carol spent her childhood riding horses with her sister Marty and friends, a lifelong passion that later led her to own two beautiful horses, Congo and Yankee Sport. Carol graduated from Walnut Hills High School before attending Sullins College and later transferring to Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in dental hygiene in 1963. That same year, she married John Hamilton Howard. She worked as a dental hygienist until they had their first child, Laurie. Seeking warmer weather, they moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where John practiced small animal veterinary medicine, and Carol had Amy, her second daughter.
A devoted mother, homemaker, and volunteer, Carol gave generously of her time through the Junior League of Ft. Lauderdale, Kids in Distress, her daughters’ schools, and Girl Scout troops. Guided by a deep Christian faith, she lived a life of service and compassion, inspiring the same spirit in her children and grandchildren.
Carol and John shared a love of Ohio State football, yearly visits to Sanibel Island, autumn trips to the North Carolina mountains, visits with family in northern Kentucky, and travels with friends to Europe and Israel. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren during summers and holidays. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband John Hamilton Howard, her mother Edna Elizabeth Widmer and her father Harry Frederick Fischer.
Carol is survived by her two children and their families:
Daughter Laurie Hembree, husband Mike, and their daughters Jessica and Angela; Daughter Amy McGill, husband Greg, and their son Liam and daughter Katie. She is also survived by her sister Marty Mileham and brother Fred Fischer.
