Carol was born in Fort Lauderdale, June 15, 1943. She went to be with The Lord, Tuesday, June 3, 2014. She was a beautiful child, many people commented on this beauty and in fact she had modeling jobs from an early age. She was very fortunate to enjoy her mom and dad for seven years before her sister Sandy was born. Soon after sisters Robin, Linda and then Cheri joined the family. She was also a very big helper to her mom, often changing diapers, cleaning the house and also cooking from a very early age. Her childhood was unfortunately filled with pain and grief as she was born with 3 kidneys. One of the kidneys filled her body with poison which made her very, very ill. No one knew the reason for her illness until the age of 27 when Dr. Braman discovered she had 3 kidneys and that one was causing this poison to seep into her body. She had surgery at this time and they were able to remove the kidney and all the poison that caused her to suffer so. This is when she finally started her life! When she was 17 she met her first husband Tom. She loved babies so much and couldn't’t wait to have one of her own. Joyce Carol Raz, her first daughter was born January 2, 1963. Her second daughter was born August 11, 1964 and her son Robert (Little Bobby) was born March 16, 1970.Mom was married a few times during her life. She was one to never settle for too long in one place, always searching for happiness and “greener grass” elsewhere. She seemed to always look for this love not only in husbands but, in different cities, towns and states. She had an adventurous spirit and she would have loved to travel her entire life – had she not been ill and of course if money was unlimited! She was very creative and had a passion for many creative things. She loved cooking, cake decorating, ceramics, decoupage purses, ashtrays, etc. But, her primary passion was cooking. She would make the best Thanksgiving dinners complete with home-made pies. She would never think of purchasing a pie, it always had to be home-made!. Her barbecued ribs were the best in town! In 1981 she and her daughter Joyce both went to barber school together and thus started her career. In 1992, when looking for a slower paced life, she moved with her husband, Jay to Fort Pierce. She really loved the lifestyle it offered, free of all the traffic and “craziness” Fort Lauderdale offered. She was very happy there and in fact opened her own hair salon, The Flying Clipper. She was very proud of her salon and took care of so many customers. On her days off she would also regularly visit nursing homes to cut the resident’s hair. Mom lived life on her own terms. She was very stubborn at times and would often say, “No one is going to tell me what to do!” This is how she lived up until the very end. Unfortunately, Carol and Jay divorced in 2004. This found her living alone until she moved back to Fort Lauderdale in 2013. When mom got sick in 2011, she decided to finish life on her own terms. She would not even hear about a nursing home – because she was “way too young” for this! When she went to the hospital last year, rather than going to a nursing home, we finally moved her down to Fort Lauderdale so she could be near her kids. She lived with Joyce for three months and then finally on her own. She was very stubborn but, wanted to live freely on her own. Mom was a lover of The Lord and read her bible daily. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Mom loved us kids very, very much. She had a hard time showing it sometimes just out of sheer desperation through circumstances she was experiencing. Her family was the single most important thing to her. We always knew we were loved. Mom also loved her beautiful cat, Callie Ann.Mom, thank you for bringing us into this world and for everything you did for us. We love you so very much and we hope you know this. Please give a big hug to Grandma Fish, Grandma Gladys, Aunt Nellie, Grandma Bea, Grandpa Fred and Uncle Lou. We will be with you one day and until then…please keep watch over us. I know you will proudly welcome us home when we come to be with you and The Lord. We love you mom!! Your kids, Joyce, Cheryl and Robert (Little Bobby) Arrangements under the direction of Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
